Sasha Regan (Director/Executive Producer)

Sasha Regan founded The Union Theatre in 1998. Ten years on she is proud to have established a London venue that is still going strong. The Union has just been nominated for the Peter Brook Awards 2008, to be announced on November 4th at The National Theatre Studio.

Regan’s directing credits include straight plays 'We're all doing Time' (Critics Choice), new musicals 'Chelinot' (The Sunday Times Critics Choice) and the restaging of theatrical classic 'Cabaret' in 2006 to critical acclaim.

Producing credits include; the very successful all-male G & S revivals of HMS Pinafore (Critics Choice Evening Standard) and the Mikado (Critics Choice Time Out, Evening Standard and the Times), Annie get your Gun (Critics Choice) and The Pajama Game (Critics Choice).

Last year Sasha was awarded The Stage One Bursary for New Producers by The Society of London Theatres. Sasha is a mummy of two.

 

Christopher Mundy (Musical Director)

Chris graduated from Girton College, Cambridge (2003-06), with an honours degree in music, and holds a performing diploma from the Royal Schools of Music (piano).

As a composer, orchestrator and arranger, Chris has written and orchestrated the 2006 Girton College Pantomime Cinderella, arranged and orchestrated musical theatre classics for different vocal and instrumental ensembles for the revue Too Darn Hot! A Night At The Musicals, and also provided the orchestrations for Tony Blair: The Musical. Chris has also worked transcribing songs for the musical Divas, performed at the International Festival of Musical Theatre, 2006, in Cardiff.

As Assistant Musical Director: My Fair Lady, HMS Pinafore, Little Shop of Horrors, The Threepenny Opera, Spartacus (Footlights), Aristophanes’ Peace, and Whistle Down The Wind. As Musical Director: Merrily We Roll Along, Women of Trachis, Too Darn Hot! A Night At The Musicals. Chris also musically directed, and accompanied, for the UK Stephen Sondheim Society’s inaugural Student Performer of the Year Competition  (The Venue, Leicester Square).

As a pianist, Chris has played audition and rehearsal piano for Our Miss Gibbs (Finborough Theatre, London), and as a pit-pianist for Sweeney Todd, Marat/Sade, Whistle Down The Wind, Little Shop of Horrors, The Threepenny Opera, Women of Trachis, Spartacus, Assassins and for Impromime and Stories That Need To Be Told, a touring pantomime and fairy tale piece, respectively, completely improvised (musically and dramatically) from audience suggestions.

In the West End, Chris has worked as an audition pianist for BKL, rehearsal pianist for Mary Poppins (Prince Edward Theatre) and as a keyboard dep. on Evita (Adelphi Theatre), and he was also one of the rehearsal pianists for the Really Useful Group section of Concert For Diana at Wembley Stadium.

Recent work includes MD/keys and orchestrating Tony Blair: The Musical (Fringe Sell-Out, 2007), on which show he was described as “an MD who knows how to do musical theatre” (The Stage), MD/keys 1 on Speed Dating: The Musical (Jermyn Street), audition piano for Betwixt (The King’s Head), audition and rehearsal piano for The Black and White Ball (The King’s Head), supervised by Larry Blank, and MD for The News Revue at the Canal Café Theatre.

Work plans for the future include a return to The News Revue for their Christmas run, and the UK Premiere of Reefer Madness at The Bridewell Theatre, in March 2009.

 

Sally Brooks (Choreographer)

Sally trained at Bird College, graduating in 2005 with a BA (hons) in Dance and Theatre Arts. Since then, she has been fortunate enough to work as both an actor and a choreographer. Theatre credits include: Baby Bear in Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Phyllis in The Railway Children, Mabel in An Ideal Husband, Hero in Much Ado About Nothing and the title role in Peter Pan. Choreography credits include HMS Pinafore and The Pajama Game (Time Out and Evening Standard Critics Choice) both for the Union Theatre. Sally is really excited to be returning for Sweeney Todd.

 

Sophie Mosberger (Set Designer)

Designer Sophie Mosberger graduated from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2007 with a distinction in Theatre Design. Sophie is a 2007 Linbury Prize finalist, and winner of the Royal Opera House Bursary, where she worked for designer Alison Chitty on The Minotaur, composed by Harrison Burtwistle.

Sophie has designed ‘Anna Karenina’ for Bristol Old Vic studio, ‘The Conservatory’ for Old Red Lion Theatre, ‘Confusions’ as part of the Twenty Seven Festival at the New End Theatre, ‘Frida Kahlo: Viva La Vida’ for Hill Street Theatre, Edinburgh and Theatre 503, ‘Macbeth’ for Brewhouse Theatre, Taunton, ‘Cosi’ for White Bear Theatre, ‘Casa Latin American Theatre Festival’ for Union Theatre, and costume design for ‘Elephant's Child’ for Arcola Theatre and Trafalgar Studio.

Sophie is currently designing ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’ for St Alban’s Chamber Opera.

 

Steve Miller (Lighting Design & Assitant Director)

Steve has assisted Sasha on a number of shows as AD, and He has just returned from Liverpool where he has directed the play 'Windemere', he will be directing the play 'Little Boy' early next year in London.

 

Poppy Ben-David (Producer)

Poppy trained at The Royal Ballet School, graduating in 2000 and was the recipient of the Ursula Moreton, James Monahan and Ninette de Valois Awards for Choreography. As a Choreographer, she has created five professional works including Siren Song for the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House (“considerable promise” the Observer) , Faithful Gelert for the Peacock Theatre (Critics Choice Time Out), and Gabriel’s Poem for Birmingham Royal Ballet. In 2002 she won the Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award for Entrepreneurs and began producing dance works for Ballet Central’s National Tour in 2003 as well as producing works at The Place and The Space (Docklands) for her dance company Neophilia (“Hugely Entertaining” Keith Watson - Metro).  In 2005, Poppy stopped working as a Choreographer and focused on Production.

Poppy was Associate Producer on the ALL MALE Mikado at the Union Theatre (Time Out 5*, Critics Choice the Times, 4* Evening Standard) and Co-producer of the sell out ‘Magic to Cry For’ season at the Canal Café Theatre August 2008, featuring StandnotAmazed, Fay Presto, Scott Penrose, Paul Foot and Piff the Magic Dragon. Poppy also produced 'A Day of Magic' at the Arcola Theatre in November '08 staring John Archer and Paul Kieve.

Future productions include 'Pifftacular' for Edinburgh 2009 as well as numerous other projects.

Administrative roles have included: Development Account Manager (Rambert) Development Officer (Birmingham Hippodrome) Marketing Assistant (Ballet Central) Senior Sales Advisor (Jongleurs Comedy Limited).

Poppy recently worked for the Production Team at Ambassador Theatre Group and since being there has worked on Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker, Guys and Dolls, Rocky Horror Show, Elling, Fat Pig, West Side Story, The Lover The Collection, Noises Off, Riflemind, RENT and A Night in November.

In December 2008 Poppy was awarded the Stage One New Producer's Bursary by the Society of London Theatres.

 

Giles Faulkner (Assistant Director)

Giles trained at The Oxford School of Drama, graduating in 2005. Since then he has worked at the Union as an actor and a director. Giles assisted on Aoife Smyth's production of 'Spring Awakening' in 2006. Then directed 'Caligula' (TimeOut Critics Choice) in 2007. This year he has directed 'The Two Of Us' at the Barons Court Theatre and 'Match Fixing', which was part of the 'Prose and Cons' shorts at the Union. After assisting on 'Sweeny Todd' Giles is directing the Union's adult panto 'It's Behind You!' in December and a new adaptation of 'Jekyll and Hyde', which will open at the Union in February 2009.

 

Alex Weatherhill (Musical Arrangements)

Alex divides his time between performing, arranging and recording.  In 2006 he released an album, ‘My Other Voice’, of Classical Crossover material using his unusual counter-tenor range.

Musical Director and/or Arranger credits include: Broadway at the Broadway: A Salute to Jerry Herman (Broadway Studio, Catford); Mack and Mabel (Broadway Studio); Swing it on Broadway (UK Tour); Annie Get Your Gun (Union Theatre); van der blast showcase (Delphont Room, Prince of Wales Theatre); Concert 2K (theatre tour); Stage and Screen/An Evening of Entertainment (Swan Theatre, Worcester) and A British Cabaret (Berkley Castle).

Previous theatre credits include: Avrahm in Fiddler on the Roof (UK & Ireland Tour); Buttercup/Josephine/Cousin Hebe in the All Male HMS Pinafore (Union Theatre); Soloist in Last Night of the Proms and The Christmas Spectacular (Thursford); Mary Sunshine in Chicago (Adelphi); Frederick in The Priates of Penzance; Riff in West Side Story; cover Jesus/Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar; Mole in Wind in the Willows; Vasek in The Bartered Bride and Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus.

He has appeared in production shows at The Spa Theatre, Scarborough, The Swan Theatre, Worcester, on tour in Cyprus and in a very large tent in the middle of a Safari Park! As a cabaret artist Alex has performed all over the UK and Europe including celebrity parties and guest work on cruise ships.

As a session singer he has performed with PJ Proby, Billie Davis, American Trilogy (Tribute show), The Elvis Experience and has recorded for Voiceworks International (voice tuition CDs) as well as various concept recordings for new Musical Theatre pieces.
